# How do I replace or remove bill of lading numbers on a tradeflow?

Use the Downstream API to update the tradeflow. Send a POST to /downstream/tradeflows with the tradeflow\_reference. Use the bill\_of\_lading\_reference list and include only the correct bill of lading reference. Set bill\_of\_lading\_references\_complete to true. The documentation lists this flag for bill\_of\_lading\_reference and says it uses the same logic as the container complete flag, where containers not listed are removed. If you omit the complete flag, the list is merged instead of replaced. Processing is asynchronous; the response acknowledges each queued item. Check the result in the app with Download ▸ Download V3 API, or read it back from the upstream API.

**Example**  
A forwarder has a tradeflow with several bill of lading references. They send an update with only the correct reference in the bill\_of\_lading\_reference list and set bill\_of\_lading\_references\_complete to true. The other references are removed. They then check the tradeflow in the app with Download ▸ Download V3 API.
